Kōrero: National parks

A national park ranger (right) talks to two hunters at Lake Manapōuri in Fiordland National Park, in 1968. Following the National Parks Act 1952, a ranger service was set up. By 1961 it employed 22 trained rangers who raised awareness of national parks and ensured that people behaved responsibly while visiting them.
