Diving beetle

This diving beetle (Rhantus suturalis) is one of 16 native species of diving beetle. They trap air beneath their wings, allowing them to breathe as they hunt under water. They swim using their large hind legs and paddle-like feet.

This specimen was collected by John Nunn.
