Trapped stoat

Since their introduction to New Zealand in the 1890s, mustelids (ferrets, stoats and weasels) have devastated bird life. They are difficult to catch, so their eradication is almost impossible except on small islands. This stoat was caught in a Fenn trap box on Maud Island in 1995.
