A helicopter is being used to reach this wilding pine on Molesworth Station in Marlborough. Pine tree seeds are spread by the wind, often into high-country tussock grasslands. If nothing is done to control wilding pines, over time many tussocklands will become pine forests. Small pine seedlings can be pulled out by hand, but this larger specimen will be felled and its stump coated with herbicide.
