Graves at Battle Hill

The graves at Battle Hill, north of Pāuatahanui, include those of a soldier and sailor, two of the five government troops killed in the 1846 encounter with Te Rangihaeata. Buried nearby are the Abbot family, who settled there in 1860 and named the area after the battle.
