Graves at Battle Hill

Graves at Battle Hill

These graves at Battle Hill, north of Pāuatahanui, include those of a soldier and sailor, two of the three government troops killed in the 1846 encounter with Te Rangihaeata. Buried nearby are the Abbott family, who settled there in 1860 and named the area after the battle.
