Kāpiti Coast

Kāpiti coast

The Kāpiti coastal plain begins at the settlement of Paekākāriki (middle distance). The coast is a series of sand dunes and river fans that have gradually built out from the foothills of the Tararua Range. Ocean currents have both enlarged and eroded the coastline. Kāpiti Island is visible at top left.
