Raw soil

Raw soil

This soil on the banks of the Ōroua River, near Feilding, received a deposit of silt in the 2004 Manawatū flood. The top 15 centimetres overlies existing pasture, and shows distinct layers of silt from previous floods. The regular layering of silt means that the soil has little chance to develop a distinct topsoil.
