Longfin eel

A fisherman grapples with a large longfin eel from Te Waihora (Lake Ellesmere) south of Christchurch. Along with the shortfin eel, longfins are commercially harvested. Longfin eels are New Zealand’s top freshwater predator species – no species apart from humans preys on adult eels.
