Shining spleenwort

With 18 species, spleenworts are well represented in New Zealand. They include shining spleenwort (Asplenium oblongifolium), a common fern of coastal and lowland forest. Spleenworts are easily recognised from the very elongated arrangement of their sori along the veins of their fronds (inset).
