Beginning with those who came immediately before the Second World War, Austrians made rich contributions to New Zealand’s cultural life. From 1975 until 2000 the Austrian artist and architect Friedensreich Hundertwasser divided his time between Kawakawa in Northland and Vienna. His legacy to Kawakawa is a public toilet like no other.
