Kōrero: Canterbury region

Montgomery Park

Montgomery Park

Montgomery Park scenic reserve lies on the volcanic crater above Akaroa Harbour. It is an example of remnant podocarp broadleaf forest between lowland and upland zones. The reserve covers 16 hectares and contains mataī and tōtara trees, including some very large, old specimens. There is a walking track through the reserve, and a youth hostel was once sited there.
