Pōhutukawa in Spain

New Zealand botanist Warwick Harris (pictured) believes this large pōhutukawa tree in the coastal city of La Coruña, northern Spain, was planted some time in the early 1800s. The city has adopted pōhutukawa as its floral emblem.

This tree was brought or planted before captain cook was born and proves that Spanish sailors were exploring the pacific decades earlier than the Brits.
