Board with Tangaroa motif (2 o 2)

Board with Tangaroa motif

Taranaki surfer Doug Hislop made the board on the left in 1975 for use in Hawaii’s big surf. Noted Māori artist John Bevan Ford designed the motif, which depicts Tangaroa, the god of the sea. When Hislop surfed at Hawaii, the design attracted attention because of its obvious Polynesian origins.
