Alex Veysey was the author of this 1974 biography of the All Blacks forward Colin Meads, which sold over 60,000 copies in New Zealand, a record for a sports book at the time. Veysey, born in 1927, was a sports writer for the Dominion, Sunday Times and Evening Post. He authored 16 books, mostly accounts of All Blacks tours or biographies of distinguished All Blacks, but his newspaper reporting was much broader than rugby. He was the pre-eminent Wellington sports writer in the second half of the 20th century. Veysey died in 2002.
