New Zealand soldier Bob Dunlop collected this Japanese Imperial Navy flag during fighting at Mono Island (in the Solomon Islands) in October 1943. Dunlop was in the 36th Battalion of the 3rd New Zealand Division. Units of the Royal New Zealand Navy and the Royal New Zealand Air Force also fought the Japanese in the Pacific during the Second World War.
