Austin Mitchell introduces a television series, Pavlova paradise revisited, which screened in New Zealand in 2002, 30 years after the publication of Mitchell's best-selling book, The half-gallon quarter-acre pavlova paradise. Mitchell had come to New Zealand in 1959 aged 24 as a lecturer in history at Otago University, before moving to the University of Canterbury in 1963 as a lecturer in political science and sociology, where he stayed until 1967. As he explains in this clip, during those years he hosted a regular television programme examining New Zealand politics. He became one of the few university academics at the time who established a wide following as a public intellectual.
