Tāpihana Paraire Paikea, June 1949

Tāpihana Paraire Paikea (right) welcomes prime minister Peter Fraser to the opening of the Maori Community Centre, Auckland, June 1949. As MP for Northern Māori and an Auckland resident, T. P. Paikea was particularly concerned about the problems facing Māori who moved to urban centres after the Second World War, and was involved in various initiatives to assist them.
