Kōrero: Orchestras

The 4YA orchestra

The 4YA orchestra, based in Dunedin, is pictured in 1938. Like other radio orchestras it was made up of professional players who also gave public performances and accompanied local choirs. Listen to the orchestra play part of Symphonic variations by César Franck in 1945, under the baton of Gil Dech.
