The songs we sang – songs from the Second World War

New Zealand servicemen and -women sang a wide range of often very irreverent songs during their war service. In 1959 Les Cleveland compiled some of the songs from the Second World War in his book  The songs we sang, and released a selection on an album of the same name. Cleveland sang on the record accompanied by a musical group, the D-Day Dodgers. Listen to them performing 'The fighting Kiwi'.
