The Cenozoic is the past 65 million years. By far the most common fossils in New Zealand are Cenozoic bivalves and gastropods. These are widely found in marine sedimentary rocks throughout the country. (This map shows all Cenozoic rocks in New Zealand, not all of which contain fossils.)
