This map shows the major counties contributing to migration to New Zealand during the large flows of the 1870s and early 1880s. There were three major sources of migration: London and Middlesex; the home counties, especially Kent; and the south-west, especially Cornwall. Although Yorkshire and Lancashire sent quite a number, they were actually under-represented when their large populations are taken into account.
