Galaxiid distribution

Galaxiid species dominate New Zealand’s freshwater fish groups. There are at least 18 species in the Galaxias genus, and five in the related genus Neochanna. Galaxiids are also found in Australia, Tasmania, New Caledonia, Auckland and Campbell islands, Chile, Argentina, Tierra del Fuego, Falkland Islands and South Africa.
