The expansion of Christchurch to 1926

As tramways were extended, the city of Christchurch spread out from its centre in a radial pattern that partly followed the tramlines. Suburbs developed first along the tramlines and then filled the gaps between them. This diagram shows the growth up to 1896, and then to 1926.
