Anika Moa, 'In the morning', 2005 (3 o 5)

In 2000 Anika Moa became the first New Zealand artist to be signed to an international record label without having released any music in New Zealand. She was spotted by record company executives performing in the secondary schools' music competition Rock Quest.

Moa's first album, Thinking room, was made in the United States and released in 2001. It reached number one on the New Zealand music charts. Her second album, Stolen hill, was made in New Zealand. Moa described it as 'not as over-produced; more sparse, more feeling, more family-like, more Māori, more me' than her first album, over which she had limited creative control. 'In the morning' is from Stolen hill
