Children's clothes were often very intricate in the 19th and early 20th centuries, though many would have worn fairly plain clothes in everyday situations. As with adults, children's clothing became more casual in style throughout the 20th century. Easy-care knits and synthetic fabrics characterised children's clothes in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
