This is a trailer for the movie Came a hot Friday, based on the novel of the same name by Taranaki writer Ronald Hugh Morrieson. It is the story of two gamblers, Wes Pennington and Cyril Kidman, who have been running a successful con against rural bookmakers. They have been able to do this because in 1949 the local bookie received the racing results via the radio a few minutes after the race had finished. With one person watching the actual race, another phoning the results into the pub, and a friendly local, in this case young Don Jackson, to lay the actual bet, they initially do quite well. However they run into trouble later that night when spending their winnings at the local (illegal) casino, run out of a woolshed in the backblocks, and the night ends in chaos, drama and fire, helped along by the Tainuia Kid (played by Billy T. James).
