The burst of club life in the 1970s is shown in these maps of Wellington's nightclubs in 1970 and 1975. The increase in numbers may have been greater than the maps suggest. Those shown are the clubs listed in street directories of the time – short-lived clubs may not have made it into the directories, relying on word of mouth and street-level advertising to attract people.
