Nelson’s railway ran from the city as far as Gowanbridge, 110 km south-west, on roughly the same route as State Highway 6. The line was meant to be part of the Midland railway, linking Canterbury with the West Coast and Nelson. The section along the Buller River to Īnangahua Junction was never completed, and the line was ripped up in the 1950s.
