Down under the plum treeswas published in 1972, not long after the New Zealand publication of The little red schoolbook.These books openly discussed sex, sexuality and drugs at a time when there was very little reliable information on these issues for young people. Controversial in the wider community, the books were widely circulated among teenage school students in the 1970s.
