Kōrero: Building and construction industry

Kitset cottage

This 1874 catalogue illustrates two layouts for a five-roomed cottage. In the late 1800s companies were involved in providing the raw materials for building, rather than in constructing houses. Factories such as Findlay and Co. produced all the timber required, from weatherboards through to doors.
