Click on the segments of this graph to see the main areas of income and expenditure for the two branches of the New Zealand insurance industry  life (including personal and financial risk) insurance, and general insurance. General insurance income excludes refunds and transfers between insurance companies. Under 'life insurance income', individual risk insurance includes term, income-replacement and credit insurance. For both branches of insurance, the amount of claims paid excludes standard operating costs. These figures are for 2008.
