Bicycle types

The bicycle evolved from the velocipede of the 1860s to the penny-farthing of the 1870s, to the safety bicycle of the 1880s. There were few innovations in the 20th century for the general cyclist until the 10-speed in the 1970s, and the BMX and mountain bikes in the 1980s. The use of electric bicycles (e-bikes) became popular during the early 21st century.
