In the early 2010s, Pacific people were more likely than average to be hospitalised for conditions that might have been prevented by earlier access to primary health care, such as doctors' visits. Common conditions among Pacific people include asthma and diabetes. The higher rate of hospital admissions was partly explained by traditional beliefs about health care and poor access to primary health-care providers.
