Age-standardised suicide rates, 1996–2015

This graph shows age-standardised levels of suicide in New Zealand for the period 1996–2015. Over the 20-year period, there was a statistically significant decrease in the rate of suicide (22.3% decrease, from 14.2 per 100,000 in 1996 to 11.0 per 100,000 in 2015). The peak rate during this period was in 1998 (15.1 per 100,000 population) and the lowest rate was in 2014 (10.8 per 100,000).
