Research undertaken by the Equal Employment Opportunities Trust included looking at parental leave in 2005. The survey found marked differences between women and men in their use of leave. Of the mothers surveyed, 79% had taken parental leave; 52% of fathers had done so. Most men took less than three months’ parental leave, while nearly half of women took between six and 12 months.
