This graph shows the average number of rabbits seen per linear kilometre during night-time surveys by Environment Canterbury in the Mackenzie district. In 1998, the year after rabbit haemorrhagic disease (RHD) was introduced, rabbit numbers had declined to about 1.4 per kilometre, down from 6.5 in 1996. Numbers remained relatively constant until 2004 when they started to increase sharply. By 2007 numbers were back to what they had been before the disease was introduced.
