Kōrero: New Zealand culture overseas

John Rowles

John Rowles

After humble beginnings in Kawerau, pop singer John Rowles became an international star in 1968 when his hit songs 'If I only had time' and 'Hush, not a word to Mary' featured prominently in the British top-20 singles charts. During the 1970s and early 1980s he performed in Australia and the United States (particularly Las Vegas, Nevada and Hawaii), with regular return visits to New Zealand. This poster illustrates one such tour in 1970.
