Certificate from the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition (2 o 3)

Certificate from the New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition

This certificate was awarded to the Gear Meat Preserving and Freezing Company to recognise their gold medal for preserved mutton and beef at the 1925–26 exhibition in Dunedin. The exhibition highlighted New Zealand-made goods and tinned meats would have been on display in the 1.2-hectare New Zealand manufactures pavilion. The certificate shows that exhibition promoters were still putting a heavy emphasis on encouraging tourism – at the top of the certificate are images of Aoraki/Mt Cook and Mitre Peak, at the bottom is a Māori whare and on the right is the entrance to Whakarewarewa in Rotorua. The stags' heads also advertise hunting in New Zealand. The bottom square shows a view of Dunedin, with the exhibition buildings in the foreground.
