The Coalition for Open Government was established in 1979, originally to oppose the government's 'think big' development projects. The cartoon on the cover of this December 1982 issue of the coalition's newsletter refers to projects described by the government as 'in the national interest'. The Coalition for Open Government was a major force in the campaign that secured the Official Information Act 1982.
