'Maori demonstration', 1901

This is an invitation to the ‘Maori demonstration’ in Rotorua in 1901. These colourful invitations were given only to selected guests. The mix of New Zealand and British imagery includes the figure of a Māori woman, whose banner reads ‘Haere mai te manuhiri tuarangi’ (greetings guests from afar). The demonstration was also known as the ‘Grand Carnival of the Tribes’.
