This is the front cover of the 27 January 1900 issue of the New Zealand Salvation Army's newspaper, the War Cry. Several articles and the central image focused on alcohol, which the Army regarded as one of society's greatest evils, and the cause of much of the poverty, unemployment and misery that it encountered in its work.
