This poster advertises a queen carnival held by the New Zealand Patriotic Society in Wellington in 1915. Queen carnivals were a popular way to raise money for patriotic purposes during the First World War. They might incorporate a talent quest, a sports contest, or as in this case, a concert. Women competed to raise the most money for the cause, and the winner was crowned queen.
