1921 Springbok tour

1921 Springbok tour

This is the souvenir programme for the 1921 Springbok tour of New Zealand, the first test series played between South Africa's rugby team and the All Blacks. The Springboks were an all-white team due to South Africa's policy of racial segregation, but the All Black team included several Māori players. During the tour the Springboks also played a game against an all-Māori 'Native' team, causing outrage in South Africa. It was the start of a 70-year battle between supporters and opponents of racist rugby.
