Lyster's Royal Italian and English Opera, 1880

This poster advertises operatic performances of Donizetti's La Favorita and Verdi's La Traviata at the Theatre Royal in Wellington in February 1880. The operas were presented by the Royal Italian and English Opera, which was one of the first touring opera companies to visit regularly from the northern hemisphere. The Theatre Royal was an important venue in Johnston Street.
