Kōrero: Economic history

During the 20 years after the Second World War good prices for New Zealand’s agricultural exports helped sustain a boom which led to low unemployment and considerable investment in housing and consumer goods. In this advertisement from the mid-1950s a loving wife thanks her husband for putting on a new Laminex covering in the kitchen ‘for her’, at least partly because skilled workers to carry out such tasks were in high demand and short supply.
