Kōrero: Freight and warehousing

Deregulation of shipping included the removal of restrictions (known as ‘cabotage’) on foreign competition. With the end of cabotage, international ships were able to take part in New Zealand’s coastal shipping trade. One result was reduced freight costs. Another was reduced participation by New Zealand firms and seamen. This poster protests the lack of New Zealand involvement in coastal shipping.
