‘New Zealand wants domestic servants’

‘New Zealand wants domestic servants’

This poster was issued by the High Commissioner for New Zealand in London, about 1912. It paints a prettier picture of life as a domestic servant than most young women found when they arrived in the dominion. New Zealand employers were desperate for servants, and women’s groups petitioned Parliament to offer them subsidised fares.
