A & P show by rail

A & P show by rail

New Zealand Railways offered cheap fares for transport to A & P (agricultural and pastoral) shows held up and down the country. This poster for the Palmerston North show in November 1927 gives sample fares for tickets from as far away as Invercargill. When Railways Minister Gordon Coates outlined the rail concessions given to producers in his 1923 report, he added that ‘[s]tock, implements, dogs, horses, cattle, produce, &c., consigned to shows, horse-parades, dog-trials, &c., are returned free of charge.’ This poster was one of a series produced in 1927 for different shows.
