The New Zealand Taxi Federation is the industry organisation, which represents and lobbies for the taxi industry. The Taxi Proprietors Federation was set up in 1935 by Harry Campbell, best known as the long-time executive director of the New Zealand Road Transport Federation. From 1977 to 1995, in the period when deregulation was being discussed and then put in place, it was headed by George Tyler. He had been a taxi driver in the 1950s and managed Wellington’s Black, White and Grey Taxis from 1967 to 1977.
