New Zealand at the front

The Great War (First World War), in which some 18,000 New Zealanders died, undoubtedly strengthened a sense of national identity. Publications such as The Anzac book, a collection of drawings and writings from Gallipoli, and New Zealand at the front (see above), which was produced by men on the western front, were read widely back in New Zealand.
